Pomegranates

Pomegranate is cultivated commercially only in Maharashtra. Small scale plantations are also seen in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu , Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. Fruit is consumed fresh or in the form of juice, jam, squash and syrup.

Pomegranates are low in calories and fat but high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Benefits include antioxidants, heart health, urinary health, exercise endurance, and more.

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is an ancient fruit belonging to Punicaceae family. It has been used in traditional medicinal systems and local cuisines. Recently, the interest in pomegranate has increased worldwide, especially in western countries. This may be due to its myriad of health benefits.
